Slow Food, an international NGO whose aims include preserving local food cultures, recently launched a conservation farming academy in East Africa as part of a broader initiative entitled "Developing local economies in East Africa through agro-ecology", which is expected to last until 2021. At the heart of the project are training courses in agro-ecology and good, fair food. It is aimed at farmers and farm workers aged 18 to 35. Courses are due to last four months. They will be run by local Slow Food branches in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
