In Senegal, agriculture represents 17% of the national GDP. The main productions include peanuts, corn, rice, and millet, a grass plant cultivated as a secondary cereal.
To ensure the success of the 2023-2024 agricultural campaign in Senegal, the government has allocated a budget of 100 billion CFA Francs. This budget aims to improve agricultural productivity at the national level and help local farmers acquire seeds, agricultural tools, and/or fertilizers. The budget is also allocated to training and awareness programs for small farmers. This initiative aims to strengthen food security, boost agricultural yields, and revive the rural economy of the country, which has been increasingly impacted by drought and climate variability in recent years.
