China, the Leading Trade Partner of Sub-Saharan Africa

Several Chinese companies participated in GITEX, held from May 29 to 31 in Marrakech, including highly advanced technology, innovation, and AI startups. In 2024, China is the leading trade partner of Sub-Saharan Africa. Several countries south of the Sahara benefit from these investments, increasingly focused on digital sectors, whether in mining or oil, telecommunications, infrastructure construction, or agriculture.

As for North Africa, Chinese investments there represent $0.4 billion (Source: IEMED) out of a total of $25 billion across Africa. Chinese presence in this region is illustrated by investments in infrastructure and the distribution of goods. Whether in Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, or others, such investments in the region are driven by economic and strategic interests. The need for infrastructure remains very significant in the region.
